Giving FAQ’s

Questions:

How is The Mentoring Project funded?

The Mentoring Project is funded solely through the generous giving of individuals. Initially, Donald Miller seeded the organization, however it has grown beyond his personal capability to support it fully.

While we will apply for private grants in coming years, our desire is to create a sustainable growth strategy for the organization while involving people who are passionate about our mission. We think this is done best by engaging individuals.

Why do I receive a receipt from, “Imago Dei Community”?

It is not uncommon for newly formed non-profit organizations to have a fiscal sponsor which enables a new organization to use the same Tax ID number as another NPO. Imago Dei Community is the fiscal sponsor for our organization. As such, you will receive contribution receipts from Imago until we receive our own Tax ID number.

I give $5 per month. Does that really make a difference?

Five dollars does make a difference! If 10,000 individuals give $5 per month, our financial needs will be covered for several years. What that means is that we get to stay focused on our goals: 1,000 churches, 10,000 mentors and 10,000 boys matched with a positive male role model.

Are contributions tax-deductible?

All contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law. For the current year, you will receive a receipt from Imago Dei Ministries, which is the fiscal sponsor of The Mentoring Project until we receive our own Tax ID number.

What percentage of my donation goes directly to programs?

Roughly 75% of every dollar you donate goes directly to programs and services. Our philosophy is to keep overhead as lean as possible in order to put more money into our programs. We manage overhead by partnering with universities and seminaries that provide interns to our organization free of charge. We also use our wealth of personal and professional contacts.

When I give online, is my information secure?

The Mentoring Project uses a merchant service that meets all industry standards for secure online giving. You can give confidently through our online service.

Do you use my billing information for anything outside of The Mentoring Project?

No. All of your information is contained on a secure server and will only be used within The Mentoring Project to correspond with you.

How do I increase/decrease my monthly donation?

Simply send us an email with your first and last name and indicate the amount you would like to change. You do not need to send credit card information.

How do I cancel my monthly donation?

Send us an email with our first and last name and we will cancel your donation immediately. We will send you verification that your donation has been canceled.

How do I change the billing date for my donation?

Again, you can do that by sending us an email with first and last name indicating the new date that you would like to have the charge take place.

Do I have to use a credit card to give online or can I set up an automatic funds transfer (AFT)?

At this point our merchant service provider only allows credit card transactions. If you would prefer, you can always send a check to our mailing address:
